Verbal mitzvos can be fulfilled by hearing another Jew verbalizing for you.
Like Kiddush, chazaras hashatz etc.
This is called שומע כעונה.
The Vilna Gaon and others rule that Kriyas Shema can’t be fulfilled this way.
Why not?
